Joseph Carrigan Profile Picture

Joseph Carrigan (1963)

Joseph Carrigan is a photographic artist living in Toronto. Joseph works in 35mm, medium format, 4×5 and 18×24, explores multiple alternative processing techniques with a special interest in the unique characteristics of lens designs, particularly from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
A major focus for the last number of years has been Salted Paper Printing (Silver Chloride) toned with Gold Chloride. This is a process first developed in 1839 by William Henry Fox Talbot and was the first iteration of the idea of a negative used to expose photographic paper of any kind. It is a hands on process that embeds the silver metal deep into the fibres of the paper, creating textures and qualities unique to salted paper printing.
Joseph prints himself, and has hosted salted paper printing workshops at APS Toronto and at his studio, beginner to highly advanced.
